Combat Mechanics Basic

Combat in its most basic form is turned based..

Initiative is rolled at the start of each Combat Round..

A Combat Round consisted of all actions (NPC or PC) that will be preformed during that Initiative Phase..

Each Player after initiative is rolled but before any actions are taken must at this time decide how many actions he or she will do and the Gm must decide how many actions each NPC will do..

Example:

Player 1 Declares 1 action.
Player 2 Declares 2 actions.
Player 3 Declares 1 actions.
NPC 1 and 2 Declare 1 action each..

At this point the combat round begins starting at who ever got the highest Initiative between the participants.

Example:

PC1: Attacks
PC2: Attacks
PC3: Attacks
NPC1: Attacks (after dodging all previous attempts on his life)

Now here is where it gets tricky.. For simplicity sakes lets assume all Participants have 5D in all skills…

Because PC 1 only declared a single action he receives no penalty's to his attack roll for this round.. As he's acting first having won the initiative roll. He shoots at NPC 1 who chooses to do a Reactionary Dodge using the Dodge skill..

Because this is a reactive dodge.. (One that doesn't use up the NPC's 1 declared action) he takes the standard multiple action penalty for having done 2 actions in this combat round so far.. (the 1 he declared, and the one he was forced to do). Giving him 4D dodge.. Once a dodge is rolled for a specific skill the target number is set for that skill for the rest of Combat. So NPC1 will no longer have to roll more dice to continue to dodge "blasters"..

This Finishes PC 1's "First action Turn"

PC2 decides to throw a grenade at NPC1.

This forces NPC1 to make yet another dodge attempt since he is now being attacked by a weapon using the Grenade skill.. NPC1 has now preformed 3 actions this turn and suffers the standard multiple action penalty for having done 3 actions.. (action 1 is his declared attack he's not gotten to make yet, 2 is the "blaster" dodge, 3 is the "grenade" dodge.

This gives him a dodge vs grenades of 3D (originally 5d - 2d For multiple actions) vs the attack of 4d (5d - 1d for having declared 2 actions)

This Finishes PC 2's "First action Turn"

PC3 decides to pull out his revolver and shoot at NPC1..

This forces NPC1 to make yet another dodge attempt since he is now being attacked by a weapon using the Firearms skill. NPC1 has now preformed 4 actions this turn and continues to suffer the standard multiple action penalty for having done 4 actions now.. (His declared action, Blaster dodge, Grenade Dodge, Firearm Dodge)

This gives him a dodge vs Firearms of 2d.. (Originally 5d - 3d for multiple actions) vs the attack of 5D (Since PC3 only declared 1 action and there for suffers no multiple action penalty)

Its finally poor NPC1's Turn..

He decides to throw a grenade..

This is his 1 already declared action.. He throws it at the PC's who happen to be all in the blast range. Forcing each PC to Dodge Vs Grenade skill.

He has already declared this action and started with 5d in grenades.. He still suffers the standard multiple action penalty which is a total of -3d..

0d for the Inital declared action (which he's using now)
1d for the Blaster dodge
1d for the Grenade dodge
1d for the Firearm dodge

So he ends up with a 2d Grenade attack vs..

PC 1's 4d Dodge {5d base - 1d for having now done 2 actions} (Initial 1 action + Forced dodge)
PC 2's 3d Dodge {5d base - 2d for having 3 actions} (Initial 2 actions + Forced dodge)
PC 3's 4d Dodge {5d base - 1d for having now done 2 actions} (Initial 1 action + Forced Dodge)

This now ends NPC 1's "First action Turn"

PC 2 Now gets to take his "Second action Turn"

He decides he's tired of fooling with this NPC and pulls out his Rocket Launcher and fires..

PC2 has an attack of 3d (5d base - 1d for 2nd action - 1d for dodge vs grenade)

NPC1 Has to yet again make another dodge.. This time he's Dodging vs.. Missile Weapons He starts with (5d dodge.. -1d for blaster dodge, -1d for Grenade dodge, -1d for firearm dodge -1d for Missile weapon dodge) giving him a grand total of 1D dodge..

Thus ending combat with a bang..
