Meditation Ritual

This is the basic mediation ritual I am using to keep me on the path of the Jedi. I try to get through the entire routine, but some days require spending more time in focused contemplation. This mediation ritual should never become just a recital of words but it is time to look deeply inside at all of my actions and motivations.

The following is a litany against fear. I don't recall where I heard it first, but it is very useful for those seeking to follow the path of the light side of the Force.

"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."

Jedi Code:
There is no emotion: there is peace.
There is no ignorance: there is knowledge.
There is no passion: there is serenity.
There is no death; there is only the Force.

Each line should be looked at and reflected on. I look back at what has happened to me in the recent past and see where each my actions fit into the ideals behind the code. If I am out of balance, I reflect on why that is and work to bring myself back into balance.

At the beginning and end of the mediation, I clear my mind and allow the Force to flow freely through me but not actively calling on it, simply noting the ebbs and flows of its threads.

I heard ADR say what follows. He got this from my Master.

Wisdom – A Jedi acts from wisdom, using persuasion and counsel over violence and Force powers.

Justice – When a Jedi is confronted by a situation where evil is being committed, the jedi must act to prevent that evil. A Jedi cannot allow evil to occur by inaction.

Fortitude – the Jedi acts to preserve life. To kill is inherently wrong. Jedi should seek non-violent solutions to problems. Sometimes killing or fighting is the best or only answer available. But that doesn’t mean the Jedi shouldn’t try to find an alternative.

Temperance – The Jedi should never act out of fear or hatred. A Jedi must act when calm and at peace with the Force. To act with anger filling one’s spirit is to risk temptation to the dark side.
